“One Final Act of Love” takes the heart of Charles Dickens’ *A Tale of Two Cities* and builds the song around Sydney Carton’s final choice. It is a dark, dramatic song about a wasted life finding meaning at the very end through sacrifice, mercy, and love. The song also leans into one of the novel’s hardest contrasts: love that gives itself for another person against justice corrupted into vengeance. Carton cannot undo the years behind him, but he can still choose what kind of man he will be when the final moment comes.
